About a week ago, a little girl in Denver was kidnapped as she was walking to school. For the past week and a half there has been an ongoing search for her. Today, I learned that the police found her body. She had been dismembered! I am so so sad as I hear things like this! I can't even imagine how her family is dealing with not just her death, but knowing she died a horrible death. And this little girl's killer is still free right now to find another victim!
About the time that this girl went missing, my own daughter asked me if she could walk home from school by herself. We don't live far from the school, but I can't say yes and wish later that I had said no! It is a hard balance as a parent to know when to say yes and release the reigns and when to say no. I just hope that when my kids become adults and understand the responsibility of caring for another person that they will understand the difficulty of this find line. I ask God daily for wisdom because being a parent is not for the weak! :)
