This weekend we were invited for supper at some friends’ home. It was a fun cultural experience for us because the wife is a Filipina from Northern Luzon. As is customary here in the Philippines, her sister, niece and nephew were also staying with them for an undisclosed amount of time. They made us an absolutely delicious meal of rice, sticky rice, bbq chicken, lumpia, and gabi. Gabi is made of greens and spices. Lumpia is similar to a deep fried spring roll. Here in the Philippines, they generally do not use a knife at the table. You instead eat with your fork and spoon. One thing that was surprising to me was that the family did not join us for supper. Our friends did sit down to eat with us, but her family waited till we had finished before they ate.
