In the last two months, I have dealt with a huge amount of sciatic pain. At certain points, it has been close to impossible to even walk. Being a mom of four kids, this kind of disfunction really makes life difficult. Even on a daily basis, I have pain...just more some days than others.
Most of the time I struggle with feeling like there isn't a use for physical pain. However, I do believe that without this physical pain, I would not be in the midst of discovering some incredible spiritual truths. A few weeks ago, I headed to Cheyenne, WY to get some pain relief. Some friends of ours live there and have opened a chiropractic clinic. Mike is also a deep tissue massage therapist, and his wife is a Dr. of Naturopathy. These people blessed me incredibly during the two days I was with them. They thought of my every need, physical and spiritual. I went home with two incredible books.
The first one is called, Heaven is For Real. It is an easy read but very thought provoking. It is about a boy who gets to see heaven. The key thing that impacted me was how much Jesus loves me! I know that sounds simple, but when you have had a long term relationship with God and have been jaded by life; letting this concept sink into your heart can be revolutionary!
The second book is called The Misunderstood God (the lies Religion tells about God). This book is life changing, especially if you have grown up in a religious environment. For me this book has brought a huge level of freedom and a conviction that I am loved by God. The premise is that you will view God the way you view love, since God is love. In some ways we have bought into a wrong view of love, and we put that view onto God. We forget that God is deeply interested in our hearts, not in what we can do for Him.
While I don't wish for pain, it has been worth it to learn and relearn things about God.
