Sometimes in the midst of disappointment, struggles, or sadness, I forget to see some of the wonderful things that are part of my life. Today I was thinking about all the different places we have lived and how in each place there were things to really enjoy. When we lived in PNG, I loved all the fresh fruits. Star fruit is one of my favorites, and they were only three cents apiece! I loved going to the beach and not having to pay to enjoy incredible snorkeling. I loved the mild Missouri winters and the Oregon mountains. In Wisconsin I loved the culture! I loved the many special foods and festivals that make up Wisconsin culture. Here in the Philippines, one of the incredible blessings has been the safety to get groceries, pay bills, and go places with other women without a male along. I do enjoy going places with Kris, but it was really hard not to be able to go anywhere without him when we lived in PNG. This is the only third world country I have been to where I can carry a purse. What has brought to mind this blessing has been the increase in crime as Christmas gets closer. I am thankful today that during most of the year we have been here so far, I have felt reasonably safe.
