Week 2 of classes and life in Mexico

Classes are getting more intense this week. Last week we studied reflective verses reciprocal verbs. This week we are studying the 8 different rules for conjugating irregular verbs! Next week we will start into past tense verbs. My brain feels like a sponge that is full of water, unable to absorb much more. I know I will, but I just can't imagine how I will remember and be able to use all this. :)

We had another fantastic worship service at church on Sunday. The pastor's family is completely involved in the church. The wife (Rita) does the announcements and the grown kids and their families lead worship and help with Sunday School. The worship service is incredible! The words of the songs are just so beautiful. Somehow things can be said in Spanish in such a poetic and beautiful way. One of the songs says..."In Your Light, we see the the Light." I guess I had not thought of it in that way. There is much more prayer in the services than we have in our services. They are so aware of how much they need Christ and how empty life is without Him. This past Sunday they had a missionary (Native of the State of Durango, Mexico) sharing about their family's ministry to Central Asia! It was beyond delightful to see a Mexican missionary sharing in a Mexican church about ministry overseas!

This past weekend we lost our water at the house. We were so thankful for the landlord's contact at the water and utilty company who came to our house on Saturday evening and helped us get hooked up to some water tanks on the roof of the house. By Sunday evening we had city water again. It was a bit of an adventure trying to discuss the water issues over the phone. Our landlord came by on Sunday afternoon with his wife. His name is Lalo and hers is Lilly. We enjoyed having them here although I am not sure how easy it was for them with their limited English and our limited Spanish. We are catching up on laundry now. We have four lines that run across a little utility room in the center of the house. Everything has to air dry. Most of the time, it is not hard to get things dry. The only reason I really miss my dryer at home is because our towels are shedding on us like crazy. When we get out of the shower and dry off, we then have a layer of white lint that we need to rub off. It is all part of the adventure.

On Saturday Colleen and our family took a taxi to the next town over. It was about a 45 minute ride. Public transportation here is extremely affordable, so a large portion of the population doesn't own a vehicle. We went through some more mountains. I believe we were at about 7,500 feet at one point. Guanajuato sits at around 6,500 feet above sea level. It was gorgeous. The vegetation where we are is shrubby with a lot of small cactus. In the mountains we actually drove through a forrested area. The town of Delores Hildago is in a valley and is very flat and spread out. It was a lot dirtier! I think it was more like I expected Guanajuato to be like. The people of Guanajuato really keep this town clean! We went into the Catholic church at the town center. Almost every time we have gone into a church, there has been a wedding going on. We walked down to the edge of town to look at all the pottery vendors. The town is known for their pottery. All in all it was such a nice day. We enjoyed trying to talk to our cab drivers too. On the way home an oncoming vehicle flashed his lights at us. I asked the driver if there was police up ahead and told him that is what it means when someone flashes their lights at you in the US. He told us that wasn't the case here. There were cows on the road. :)
