About a week ago we headed to Baker City, Oregon to visit some friends and the church we attended while we were there. We drove to Boise and stopped to visit Kris' aunt. We got a tour of the women's shelter she works at and then had a picnic in the park. She had sure packed up a fiest of a lunch. We visited for a little over an hour and then headed on to Baker. When we arrived our friends Alan and Lynda welcomed us into their beautiful home. They have a tremendous view from their front porch, and we enjoyed visiting with them! They grilled us up some pork chops, and then we all rushed off to the Wednesday evening service up the mountain at McEwen. Kris and I totally enjoyed the drive up the mountain. It brought back so many great memories. We had a great evening visiting with all the people there, whom we hadn't seen in at least four years!
The next morning we had a wonderful breakfast of waffles and peaches. YUM! Our morning passed too quickly, and then it was time for us to say good bye and head back to Idaho for an evening engagement. Before we left Baker, we drove past the hospital and showed Robbie where he was born and through the New Tribes Mission facility that had been his first home.
We made great time and actually ended up with 1 1/2 hours to spare, so we took a side trip to see Thousand Springs and Balanced Rock. The kids and Kris climbed up to the base of Balanced Rock, and I took pictures of them from the bottom. Then we headed on and spent the evening visiting with the McClains.
It has been good to visit with so many of our friends out here. I think we are looking forward to getting back into a routine with our family, but it has been a special time. Kris has been able to visit his grandma (90 years old) several times. We got to take her outside, and I think she really appreciated getting to see some flower gardens. And we got to take the kids to a junior rodeo that their friend was riding in.
This weekend will be busy as we are going to attend Kris' school reunion and we will have all of his family here, so we are planning a 90 birthday celebration for his grandma. I think I will be making a cake on Friday. We will be heading for Salt Lake on Monday, and then we will make the rest of the trip home in two very long days. Gotta get home for school registration. I think the kids are anxious to find out who their new teachers will be.
